ABOUT OHIA
What we do
The established goals of the Alumni are:
- To educate and inform Alumni members of the advancements within the Heart Institute and in the treatment of heart disease;
- To establish and promote communication between heart patients and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute staff; and
- To help raise funds for the Heart Institute, which are used to enhance the Institute's ability to serve its patients.
The Alumni publishes The Bulletin
twice yearly and hosts the Spring and Fall lectures
by cardiac specialists and other health care professionals to inform
members regarding developments at the Heart Institute, new information
about heart disease and advances in treatment.
Donations to the Alumni are used
exclusively to purchase equipment and fund other activities that contribute
directly to patient care and comfort in the Heart Institute.
Who we are
| Mary Clinckett, the Head of Physiotherapy at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, recognized a need for patients to be able to continue to be involved with the Institute, to be kept informed about heart disease, treatment and prevention, and to give them an opportunity to contribute to the work and evolution of the Heart Institute. After she retired in 1984, Mary turned her energy to the creation of the Alumni. In 1985, the first of many letters was sent to former patients inviting them to join the new organization. |

The Ottawa Heart Institute Alumni Inc. was established as a charitable organization in 1989, with a Constitution and a Board of Directors to guide its activities.
