Local Food Coming to Tickers Café at the Heart Institute

Spring is upon us which means the return of local farmers’ markets in Eastern Ontario offering locally grown food products.  Chef Thomas Ryder with the purchasing leader of Marek Hospitality, the Tickers Café managing company, recently took a two day tour of the surrounding area to visit some of the best local producers in search of bringing local tomatoes, beef, cheese, coffee and eggs right from the farm to Tickers Café.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting the following local producers right here in Tickers Café:

  • Fresh tomatoes from Suntech Greenhouses LTD in Manotick
  • Fresh eggs from Bekings Poultry Farm, Oxford Station
  • Beef from Dan O’Brien, home of Canada’s “happiest cows” in Winchester
  • Fresh, fair and organic coffee, from Equator Coffee Roaster in Almonte
  • Local cheese from St. Albert Cheese Co-Op in St. Albert

Tickers has been receiving Suntech tomatoes and Bekings eggs for several weeks now. Over the coming weeks you will see us introducing Dan O’Brien’s wonderful beef products paired with St. Albert Cheese and the much anticipated switch to Equator Coffee Roaster. Equator roasts weekly and will provide us whole coffee beans which will be ground fresh right in Tickers Café. We will feature “Algonquin” dark roast, and my favorite, “Freakin’ Good,” a medium blend of Ethiopian dark and Peruvian light coffee.

Please visit us at Tickers Café to taste our local products and we continue to stock some of your favorite menu choices in retail packages, allowing you to experiment with these wonderful products at home and with friends.

Happy Eating,

Thomas and the Tickers Café Team
