Put your Heart into Tickers Cooking

On Tuesday, May 21st, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Patient Alumni hosted its regular “Put Your Heart into Tickers” event. It was once again a sold-out event.

A total of 40 guests watched as Executive Chef, Elamri Samir from Marek Foods, demonstrated how to prepare two delicious and healthy recipes. The first one featured, as an appetizer, a colorful kale salad with cranberries, walnuts, apple and dill lemon tahini dressing.

The main dish was a vegetarian barley risotto with assorted mushrooms and Parmesan.

Chef Samir was assisted by Kathleen Turner, the Heart Institute’s Registered Dietitian. She provided information about the cooking ingredients and techniques, while answering questions from the audience. Generous portions of the prepared dishes were served to the attendees so they could taste the delicious results right away.

Thanks to everyone who signed up for this event. Any profits from the evening will go to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. A special thank you goes out to Chef Elamri, dietitian Kathleen Turner, and Tickers restaurant for hosting this event.
